How to care for Japanese Boulevard Blue Falsecypress as bonsai

Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Squarrosa Cyano-viridis' - Boulevard Blue False cypress- grows easily in sun to part shade but is not drought tolerant. It responds to water and fertilizer and needs protection from drying winds. They rarely forms adventitious buds after heavy pruning late in the season, or in heavy shade or on old wood. So prune the strongest growing tips if you see preferable strong foliage closer to the trunk. Allow the trunk to bulk up by planting in the field.

'Soft Serve' is a sport of Boulevard Blue False cypress also with delicate, soft fern like foliage. Bright dark green on top leaf and silver blue flecked on bottom. A naturally compact cone shaped tree requiring little pruning. Reddish brown shedding bark. Good substitute for spruce as bonsai.
