Callicarpa bonsai are easy to grow in part to full shade. Pink or lavender flowers stay from June to Aug. Lilac fruits are the main attraction and stay on from Oct to Dec. American Beautyberry -Callicarpa americana- has a more coarse form because of its big leaves. Purple Beautyberry -Callicarpa dichotoma 'Issai' - is much more rounded and refined with smaller leaves. Roots thrive in a cool, moist substrate high in organic matter. Beautyberry at maturity is an irregular upright form with graceful arching branches.
